Rangers are guardians of the wild places, skilled hunters and trackers who live on the edges of civilization. Their magic draws on their deep connection with nature, allowing them to track quarry, survive in harsh environments, and protect the wilderness from threats.
As a ranger, you gain access to spells at 2nd level. The Ranger table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your ranger spells. To cast a ranger spell, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
You know a set number of ranger spells based on your ranger level, as shown in the Spells Known column of the Ranger table. Unlike wizards, you don't prepare spells each day—the spells you know are fixed until you gain a level and can replace one known spell with another.
At 3rd level, rangers choose a Ranger Archetype that reflects their approach to rangering. Common archetypes include Beast Master, Hunter, Gloom Stalker, Horizon Walker, and Monster Slayer, each providing unique abilities that complement your spellcasting.
Rangers have access to nature and tracking magic. Signature ranger spells include Hunter's Mark, Pass Without Trace, and Spike Growth.
Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for ranger spells.
Rangers can cast spells of 1st through 5th level as they progress in levels.
