Bards are versatile spellcasters who weave magic through their artistic performances. Their spells can inspire allies, manipulate minds, heal wounds, and create powerful illusions, reflecting their role as magical jacks-of-all-trades.
As a bard, your magic comes from the music, poetry, and other performances that you've mastered. You know a set number of spells based on your bard level, and can cast them using your spell slots. Unlike wizards, you don't need to prepare spells each day—the spells you know are always available to you.
At 1st level, you know four spells of your choice from the bard spell list. You learn additional bard spells as you gain levels, and can also replace one spell you know with another when leveling up.
At 3rd level, bards choose a College that shapes their artistic and magical approach. Popular colleges include College of Lore (knowledge and expanded spell access), College of Valor (combat and inspiration), College of Glamour (charm and performance), and College of Eloquence (persuasion and oratory).
Bards excel at enchantment, illusion, and support magic. Signature bard spells include Vicious Mockery, Dissonant Whispers, and Charm Person.
Charisma is your spellcasting ability for bard spells.
Starting at 10th level, you can choose spells from any class list, expanding your magical repertoire beyond typical bard spells.
Your artistic inspiration magically bolsters others, improving their ability checks, attack rolls, or saving throws.
